Urban ForestKids

Summer Equity Program in Washington, D.C.

In 2022, we launched Urban ForestKids, an Outdoor Equity program in Washington, D.C.

Having spent a significant portion of my adult life in big cities, I wanted to put my nature immersion chops and more specifically, the Outdoor Equity program, to the test, by bringing it to an urban setting. So, in the summer of 2022 I launched UrbanForestKids Outdoor Equity in Washington DC; an almost tropical city I’ve always loved which boasts incredible green spaces and what seems like a park on every corner. Check out some of our Urban ForestKids adventures in the video below!

Despite the fact that D.C. boasts nearly 2 million trees, so many city kids have not had nature cracked open for them in a way that would make them feel like it’s theirs to truly explore and enjoy.

With a small grant from a local Seacoast angel donor I was off to the races providing free, science-based nature lessons to low income students in multiple locations in the city. And thanks to partnerships with stellar non-profits, DC Scores and NorthStar I was able to share my passion for playing and exploring outside with hundreds of inner city kids.

I’ve NEVER been more challenged AND more inspired and intend to offer free nature immersion in D.C. EVERY summer going forward. Contact me if you’d like to support this uplifting and critical project!

Urban ForestKids Outdoor Equity has partnered with District of Columbia non-profits, DC Scores and Northstar Tutoring, but is open to working with other D.C. groups supporting low income kids.

While ForestKids is not yet a non-profit, we partner with multiple non-profits and may be able to ensure that larger or corporate donations are tax deductible. If you are interested in working with or financially supporting Urban ForestKids Outdoor Equity, please contact Sarah Brown at 603-817-4694 or sarah@greenalliance.biz.
