Meet the Teacher

My name is Sarah Brown and I am the founder and lead educator of ForestKids. I’m the parent of three and a community activist, advocate, freelance writer, business owner, professional fine gardener and outdoor education specialist. Although my background is in journalism (having worked as a reporter in Russia for five years), I returned to the Seacoast to raise my three daughters, eventually transitioning professionally to a focus on sustainability and environmental advocacy. I founded Green Alliance in 2009, which became a successful and robust green business, consumer union and sustainability PR firm with a broad reach across the Seacoast. Since selling the Green Alliance in 2015 I have worked as a gardener, a journalist for National Geographic’s The Plate and American Forests, as the NH Advocate for the Union of Concerned Scientists and as an outdoor educator for young children.

I am truly at home in the forest and with children. I share their passion for exploration, curiosity and playfulness. I love interacting with kids and engaging in deep and meaningful conversations about the world around us. I’m energized by others and equally energizing to kids with my honest and real interest in their perceptions and insights. I believe in connecting with children in a truthful manner and not speaking down to anyone no matter their age. I believe the natural world provides precisely the framework children AND adults need on a continuing basis to grow and develop into their highest potential intellectually, emotionally, ethically and spiritually.
